To think that the people of great Britain might have been witness to a coup taking place in their own country during 1968, is at first thought to be laughable. However, on the 29th March 1981 the UK Sunday Times newspaper carried an article which indicated that there were suggestions that  preparations for a military coup d’état in Britain in 1968 were being planned during the time Harold Wilson was running the government.

I lived through that era and I know that hind sight is a wonderful tool, but I can assure you that at the time Harold Wilson resigned I spoke to many people around me including my wife saying that something was not quite right. After all why would a guy resign when he was leading the country and a party that at a time did not have many problems. In fact the Labour Party was sailing along on very smooth waters. My first reaction was that he’d been caught out with his fingers in the cash register, or had been having an affair. I went on to mention that in the end it would all come out and we would eventually find out the truth.

The following article could and I do use the word could have been the reason for Wilsons sudden retirement.  I’ll leave it to you all to make up your own minds. However I have to also add that the article was wrote by a member of the Marxist party, but he is using the original information supplied by the Sunday Times. Rather than dismiss it out of hand, at least give it a read and make up your own mind.

However, I would be very interested to hear from anybody  who has proof or further information  and can build on the article. Please make contact with this site.
